Much of Akron is built on hills and ravines, including hillside properties near the Cuyahoga River valley. A wood fence there has to follow the ground, so we stick-build every section on site and can rack, step, or contour it to the slope.
On Akron’s compact city lots and around its historic homes, cedar and pine give a traditional look, and privacy styles like board-on-board and shadowbox fit a tight yard. Larger yards in the outer neighborhoods suit open picket and rail.
Full-privacy options include board-to-board, board-on-board, shadowbox, and horizontal styles, plus dog-ear picket. Decorative options include cap-and-trim and board-on-board cap-and-trim, and open rail styles (3-rail, 4-rail, crossbuck, round rail, and split rail) top out at 5 feet. Privacy and picket heights start at 3 or 4 feet and go up to the limit your city allows. On Akron’s compact city lots, board-on-board and shadowbox give full privacy at close range, and hillside yards call for a fence built on site to follow the grade.

The City of Akron sets the local rules in Akron, so it’s the first call to make. Akron has been updating its fence regulations, so ask for the current version instead of relying on older rules. Ask whether wood fences need a particular finish, which side has to face your neighbor, and how tall a solid fence can be in your yard.
At Meyers Fence Company, every Akron fence we create is meticulously crafted, ensuring a fence that complements the aesthetic of your property.
