Stow is largely residential, with established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions, and properties that back up to parks, creeks, and wooded areas. Vinyl comes in privacy, picket, 3-rail, 4-rail, and crossbuck styles to fit the lot.

In Stow’s residential districts, front-yard and street-side fences are limited to 4 feet, and tall vision-blocking fencing isn’t allowed close to the street. Interior side and rear fences can be 6 feet. Posts must face the installer’s own property, unless the new fence joins an existing one whose posts face outward. In front and street-side yards a fence can be no more than 50 percent opaque, so solid privacy styles belong in interior side and rear yards, where full opacity is allowed up to 6 feet.
